Appointment November 29th

I have an appointment with a neurologist in Houston November 29th hopefully we can get some answers. All prayers are welcome

Who is the Patient Advocate

Who is the patient advocate? Is it the physicians? Is it the nurse? Is it the social worker? These are the questions that I have been asking myself lately. I have been a nurse since 2005. I have work in the nursing home, doctors offices and hospitals but yet still I am asking myself the same question who is the patient advocate. In October I became ill. Now I have been on both sides. The nurse taking care of the patient. and the patient being taken care of. This experience is teaching me that I am my advocate. As women we have been taught to listen and not question when I physician speaks. I am a nurse I know better. But still when I am at a physicians office I still find myself being very timid in the presence of the physician. I don't understand why women do this but we do. For some reason. Women today are not week. Women today hold Jobs, take care of children usually without the help of the father. But if we go to the doctors office and complain of any  symptoms the physician half heartedly listen to your complaints may do blood test or xrays and if its normal guess what it's time for the antidepressant pills. Even if your life is going good there must be some trigger some stressor because your female and emotionally unable to handle it. We as women need to stop this attitude of being weak timid. Yes we  live stressful lives. But we need to learn to ask questions. And stand up for ourselves. There is no way we would allow anyone in the workplace to speak or act the way a physician does even if it is a female physician. We trust these physicians with our lives. And our quality of life. So the next time you go to your physician office write your list of questions that you have thought out thoroughly with your list of symptoms and demand answers to your questions. " I don't know why this is happening to you. It doesn't match any symptoms that we can find". Is not and never will be a good enough answer that's how people die. So to conclude my little soap box the answer to my question who is the patient advocate it is you. Because it only affects you you're the one who has to live with it day to day. When your physician deals with his 200 to possibly 2000 patience day to day. So I can I say you are your advocate.
